Affordable Health Insurance

Published: 8:06 AM GMT-06, Wednesday, 25 June 2008

A tragic situation has been brought to my attention about the situation many of us could very easily find ourselves or may already be in. (Lack of affordable health care.)

A fellow real estate agent, Charles Richey, has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a nervous disorder. Charles, unfortunately, has no health insurance and the costs of ICU alone are staggering. A donation fund has been established to help in any way that anyone wishes.

More than 1 in 4 Texans have no Health Insurance Coverage. Possibly through no fault of their own, but through the lack of reasonably priced, affordable coverage. It is the talk of all of the politicians; something has to be done to make available affordable health care to all residents of the United States.

I look forward to the day when I can walk into a clinic (at Walmart, for instance) for everyday ailments and know what the fees and charges for health care will be upfront before the service is rendered.

It is shame that everyone in this great country does not have some level of affordable standard health care available to us.

Your story brings to light the need for change in this country when it comes to affordable health care. I am a reresentative from AARP’s Divided We Fail initiative, where we seek to get people talking about their concerns with health care in order to end gridlock in Washington.
